The bumpers have had issues since the Elite One. It's a know problem created by a design flaw. Not sure why this is so emotional for you.

That's pretty typical. It's an easy and cheap fix if you Google it, but it will eventually go out again.
I just substituted one of the paddles for the bumper after mine went out for the second time. Until my left thumbstick gave up the ghost. I used it heavily for 6 years or so though, so not bad.
