Doom is very old. Those times (times at early stages of internet) games had not enough space in hdd to have scenes with videos/images to tell a story. Often we had to use some boot diskette to start the game in order to adjust the computer to play the game properly. If you wanted to get the story, then you should buy a magazine and read it.

Left 4 dead 2 has a story. As far as I remember 4 people a andoned by their friends come together and try to reach some place to survive. It may have a weak story but still...
