I feel Tetris should really be #1. It created an entire type of game that brought in a whole new market of gamer: girls. Before Tetris, video games had been almost the exclusive territory of guys. Tetris changed that.

THEN Mario at #2.

Also, Mega Man 2 was rather easy, certainly much easier than the first entry.

Your list needs to include Gradius. Not the first side scrolling space shooter, but certainly the one that brought in many of the elements that have been standard since.
