See AllStar Trek's Post-Scarcity World, Explained
It's a communist fantasy that ignores human nature. While SOME, if freed from the need to work to survive, may pursue lofty altruistic dreams, the reality is that most would become lazy couch potatoes, doing and owning nothing and being happy with that station in life. Scarcity and work build character. The idea of ST is that humanity will help others when freed from struggle, but who is there to help if everyone's needs are already met? We've all met the bullying selfish insufferable rich kid. That is what humanity would become in a post scarcity world. Self aware rich parents know they need to introduce some scarcity, struggle & discipline into their children's lives or else they grow up to be selfish monsters who dgaf about anyone or anything. It's better to recognize the reality of human nature and work within its constraints, rather than pretending it can be changed.
