BG3 world is infinitely smaller than Skyrims and New Vegas yet feels infinitely more interesting to explore than Skyrims while also being extremely successful. The size of the world doesn't mean it's not interesting not engaging to explore. Exploration is about the locals being interesting enough for the player to take the off beaten path and be rewarding.
