First off Boruto only surpassed Naruto because (the article covered this) Kurama died.

In my opinion i think that Naruto got used to being able to rely on Kuramas immense chakra reserves.

I believe that Naruto still has access to the Sage of six paths mode. But he will probably have to get down on some meditation sessions to get used to only using his chakra reserves and how to use his chakra more sparingly so be doesn't just blow his load right off the bat. And im not saying that he doesn't know how to control his chakra he has obviously learned how to do that when he mastered sage mode. After he learns how to tap into sage of six path mode when ever he wants without kuramas chakra he should be able to unlock ultimate sage mode. But where we are right now in Boruto: two blue vortex. Boruto is a beast and Sasuke trained him everything he knows and Sasuke became Narutos equal without being a jinchuriki and relying on a massive unmeasurable chakra reserve. Ill list a few reasons who Boruto surpassed Naruto after Kurama death.

1. The jogan: the ability to see any opponents weakness, negative chakra, able to see through illusions and see into different dimensions and perceive different entities from those dimensions.

2. Rasengan Uzuhiko.

3. Borutos Flying Raijin.

4.karma: the ability to absorb jutsu, chakra and using space and time to teleport. Enhanced strength, speed and agility.

5. Flying an ability that is natural to Otsusuki.

6. Mastered sasukes kenjutsu with the sword and every jutsu Sasuke knew without his sharingan.

7.future sight

8. Karma also give Boruto past otsusuki battle knowledge and experience.

The main point your missing, that the article touches on is that kurama (THE MAIN SOURCE OF NARUTOS IMMENSE CHAKRA RESERVE) DIES

So in my unbiased opinion i think that at the point we are at in Boruto: two blue vortex the only way Naruto can catch back up to Boruto is start training again and relying on his other abilities. I believe that he still has access to the Sage of the six paths mode. He just might have to ease back into it with his own chakra and mastering his own chakra control (im not saying that he doesn't know how to control his chakra and the chakra around him he obviously learned how to do that when he mastered sage mode. But he has relied on kuramas chakra for so long he might have to get back to the basics and get down on some meditation and reevaluate how much chakra he has on his own and how to use it without depleting all of it in one shot.) Once he either realizes he still has that Ace up his sleeve or learns how to reactivate it with his own chakra after he masters sage of six patha mode he could potentially unlock ultimate sage mode using sage of six path mode to get there he will be back to that unstoppable Naruto. But were we are right now Boruto is a beast. I mean Sasuke trained him teaching him everything he knows. And Sasuke became Narutos equal without being a jinchuriki. So Boruto has that going for him.
