See AllNaughty Dog Has to Avoid an Unfortunate Role Reversal With Its New IP
REALLY interesting to me that Santa Monica (SM) & Naughty Dog (ND) are working on a sci-fi game. What if it's not a coincidence? Creating a AAA IP that sustains you for decades is rare. ND had done it with Uncharted & Last of Us; SM with God of War. Rockstar with Grand Theft Auto and Red Dead Redemption. If you finally have to come back to create a new IP again though, it can literally ruin you as a studio if you screw it up. Rockstar though with GTA seems to have something that could sustain them forever, as long as they don't screw it up. One GTA game per console with a story and online version, billions & billion made, rinse, repeat. What if SONY wants a GTA type game/universe to do the same, but the online side you just keep building onto? It seems like that was Chris Roberts was doing with Star Citizen, & that's why it'll never be finished, he'll just keep updating it. SONY has two of the best studios out there in Santa Monica and Naughty Dog. What if the plan is to use BOTH studios to try & create what essentially will become a GTA type playground in space for the online multiplayer version up in the cloud that you just keep updating and building on, & the single player stories, like the one Santa Monica and Naughty are working on, told within it? So planned overlap of both games, not worrying about avoiding it like the article mentioned. Having two studios working on the overall online side of that online universe at the same time would sure give you a boost in getting something big and beautiful built much more quickly. You can see Naughty Dog was trying to get into also having an online multiplayer with the Last of Us IP. If iboth studios build it correctly here instead, it gives them/SONY nonstop money coming in from in-game purchases for ships, weapons, etc..just like GTA does in their online version, but again, also allows the studios to release and tell single player stories, which they love to do, within that same universe!
Naughty Dog Has to Avoid an Unfortunate Role Reversal With Its New IP
I think they mean that Naughty Dog had confirmed a while ago that for the first time ever, their studio is working on two new games at the same time, and one of them is a brand new IP. The assumed 'other' game by folks was The Last of Us 3. So I think they're simply saying that this new IP might be their next release, and not the other game they working on, assumed to be The Last of Us 3
