Pretty sure the original farming sim, Harvest Moon (and later Story of Seasons), which the developer of Stardew Valley got inspiration from is already set in rural Japan. So its not really a new concept, its been done since the 1990s when Harvest Moon was first released on the SNES. This is just bringing it back to its roots. I still intend to check the game out, it looks cute.
