Thanks for the heads up. I just bought the game on sale and was thinking about giving it a go... But I don't think I want my behavior motivated by that sunken cost fallacy. I'll stick to Dwarf Fortress.

I get it, in a sea of mediocrity, all it takes is a tiny bit of effort to appear exceptional. But they are the ones making the extra effort. People aren't going to boycott GTA6 even though rockstar treated their employees worse than how Krafton is treating theirs. Krafton isn't laying off their staff, their offering them an amicable split if they disagree with their new direction. They don't need any more mutinous employees trying to divert them off course.

I haven't played pubg in years, nor have I tried any of their products, but I might give them a try now.

Honestly, they might as well rewrite the main storyline into a generic open world fantasy game? Why not have it come back round full circle in the end of his mod by having the player assassinate the king as the final quest?

I think that's how abusive relationships work. One partner manipulates and abuses the other for personal gain, then apologizes and promises to patch things up, and then does it all over again.

The only people who are complaining about AI in media, are the people who get over paid for the amount of work they do. Should a construction worker who moves bags of sand and concrete for a living make less than someone who pretends to be an imaginary person?

I enjoy the galactic civilization series, it's a better take on the genre than the latest civilization. My only beef with the modern 4x genre is the tabletop hexagonal board setup, and their emulation of the tabletop games. Don't get me wrong, back in the space age era, digital games were limited by their technology; pong being a prime example of the limits of early space tech. But look at how much technology has progressed since then, how much depth our games have... And then look at this hexagonal style and tell me it isn't antiquated. It's like dressing pong up with the latest and greatest visual graphics, and calling it a modern game. No, it wouldn't be, it would be the same old game with a fresh coat of paint.

Maybe I expect to much, but I'm willing to bet there's a lot of smaller studios who could make some grand epic if they had the budget of some of these other games. Of course, mismanagement could turn any game into star citizen given enough money... But I digress. I'm just saying, clones of great games are low budget productions. Pushing the envelope of modern technology is the product of high budget productions.

That's how you know this game was created for all the world's most toxic gamers. "Can't seem to make any friends in the free to play MMORPG? No worries, come and play Erenshor, where I have programmed fake robot friends!"

My trust in the Sid Meier name was slowly starting to wane long before this game. I would argue pirates was the first sign of the slow fall...

Like, Sid's games were ahead of their time at one point... Now, they are so far behind the times that they are just an overly obtuse and cumbersome board game that requires an incredibly advanced and expensive calculator to play, and lots and lots of pieces.

The only reason I bought it, as well as civ 5 and 6, is because I always hope this is gonna be the grown ups version. This is going to be the edition where I am renowned for my cups, which are traded all over the world, where my tribe of hunter gatherers find a rich a fertile delta, and discover the virtues of an agrarian life. That this will be the edition where we witness the rise of a humble soldier into a living hero God, elevating my people out of tribalism and into the world's first monarchy. That this will be the civilization game that combined the best todays games into an epic.

But alas... No. When modern games have taken their mechanics and systems to whole new levels of complexity and fidelity, this game somehow manages to become simpler with each iteration. It's almost like firaxis hasn't a clue what made sid meiers masterpieces, masterful work. And the worst part is, the man is obviously so over the hill that he has lost his masterful grasp in his senility. So we will never see another sid Meier master piece on modern hardware, only cheap imitations made to look attractive to children who don't know enough to know better.
