Not a scam. It's a digital simulator of the irl pokemon TCG game that fits in your pocket. In the irl game you buy packs with real money. Same concept here once your free to play currency runs out. It's not too pricey to buy gold if ya got a job;) I'm a yugioh guy myself but pokemon pocket has awesome art on the cards
