DQ3 will feel like the full package. It is a much more fleshed out game than either 1 or 2. DQ1, in particular, is about as simple and bare-boned a game as it gets. And like someone else already mentioned, DQ3 is a prequel. The games are being released in the correct order as far as story is concerned.
