Not dissimilar from Landlord vs Tenant. It's not yours. Especially with these games. You're literally 'renting' them until the Landlord ends the arrangement.
Should there be options/language that if an MMO company ends support they should offer options for self hosting? Penalties/clear language to the buyer stating if the company pulls the plug tomorrow, sucks to be you. Or penalties to the company of the effect, "You will provide hosting for this game for a period of no less than X years, prohibiting bankruptcy (and all the other words Insurance companies protect themselves with) or be subject to a fine of $X paid to all Registered Game Owners? Should be interesting to see what Governments try to force companies to do and whether they just end run them or a shortage of MMO's on the market in response.
