EA can not at any time make it so other companies can't make life simulation games. EA has to abide by antitrust laws.

Rick No DLC is given up, people play The Sims 1, The Sims 2 and The Sims 3 perfectly fine. If and when TS5 comes out, you're not forced to quit playing TS4.

Why There Are Almost No Games Like The Sims

Excuse me while I laugh at the "undivided" fanbase part. Paralives releases in Early Access on December 8th, and Inzoi is available now. So they're are other life simulation games that exist.
