It's just how articles on the internet are now. To generate traffic they want to post about something popular, and if they're able to criticize or create an argument around that subject it will generate more engagement.
Frieren is way better. Though it won't be the anime of the year because the second season won't air until next year.
Lazarus is probably the best thing I've seen so far this year. But I'm not particularly crazy about a lot of Shonen type action anime. They seem to be more of the same. Frieren at least offers some interesting reflection on mortality, memory, and the passage of time to differentiate it from a lot of action anime that's mostly made for teenagers.
