I understand the direction of 3D spotting, because it shows team mates where the enemy is advancing in lieue of actually using your mic. Most people don't use a mic. I think they could improve upon the idea of instead of seeing the outline of enemy soldiers in real-time, marking enemy soldiers should create a small-ish red cloud on the map. This way allies know the direction of the enemy assault while maintaining an element of the fog of war. On the mini compass you could simple have a red arrow pointing to the area, while the large map shows a fog.
