No. Absolutely not. The silent protagonist is one of the foundational distinctions of the Dragon Quest series. It's the perfect conduit for the player in the game itself. The silent protagonist is nothing but a shell to allow the player think and feel what they want rather than what the developers tell them too. Where were all these complaints with Chrono Trigger? The same silent protagonist was used there too, but no one complains. This system is there for a reason... Asking for anything else is putting training wheels on a great series.

The author literally referenced "poetic liberties" then rolls right into "does not try to stay true to the real Jeanne d'Arc's story." I'm curious what your point is? This article reads like a punching bag for remakes, SQE, or DQ as a series. Either way, you pointed out the reason and called it flimsy. What can you expect from ScreenRant though?
