First of all, the tattoo we see on Shank's arm doesn't even remotely match the tattoos we've seen on the Holy Knights. Second of all, Rodgers found Shanks in a treasure chest as a baby which means he was raised on that ship so he wouldn't have even met any of the Knights until he was much older
