Unconvinced the OP tried to tame a rabbit.

Rabbits are the worst. Sure you can sneak up but after you damage them you are chasing the buggers to dart them. I have caught a rabbit once that was riddled with 12 of my darts, others run around an aluminium node and just vanish.

Catching them is more luck than skill.
