The Japanese prime minister's words were referring to real life defacement of shrines.

Underhanded attempts to impact the game's release saw some overzealous players petition the Japanese parliament, who's response was that they were unconcerned with a fictional game.

I said in an earlier response that It's entirely possible to do a job like voice acting - where you're given direction and play a role, regardless of how it may or may not reflect your personal views - and just do the work, independent of whoever you are in your real life, outside of your work.

Safe to say no one who ever played the Joker was an actual criminal psychopath, so why would this be any different?
