Yeah I'm boycotting everything Nintendo these days. They've embraced being the heel which crushes their customers in the name of Anti-Piracy, which has always been more about control than profit. I've no need for them or their totalitarian approach to console design. Down with tyrants.

Definitely a terrible thing to be happening, doesn't quite measure up to the entire, need drawn out protests and boycotts to ensure a person's basic right to not have their voice or image used by AI. The financial hits and image damage companies are taking drawing things out like this is very indicative of a unwillingness to let the potential to exploit such a thing slip by, which is itself indicative of intent to explore potential exploitation.

I'm glad to see the effort is at least being maintained. I agree that pure nostalgia is no way to make anything. We had that demonstrated well with the force awakens. That said, repeatedly emphasizing that isn't really doing much?

Let's start by saying focusing overly much on a graphics update is the wrong way to go. Fallout New Vegas is still a better game than any of the rehauled graphic variants which have released since. When considering what to be done with the game looks focus should be on places in the game. The atmosphere of those places, and the way they can be improved with small additions or adjustments to enhance that atmosphere is key. Which isn't to say there isn't place for some ambition, but that's a bit harder to speculate on without an understanding of what the company is aiming for with this remake.

Next there is dialogue. There could be some gems to add here. Little rewards for people really willing to invest time into exploring the characters again and not skip through the familiar dialogue. Changes are more fraught with peril, but plausible provided the focus is given to the narrative quality and better setting up any of the additions.

It's not really much of a comic adaptation either. Key elements are left out entirely, Shelly and Eric's characters are practically put through a wood chipper, and the satanic elements have nothing to do with the comic. This is a mostly original movie premise and characters with a crow paint job and main characters sharing little besides the names Eric Draven and Shelly Webster with any previous iteration of the characters, comic or otherwise.

"It's not popular because it isn't the 90s anymore." That is a bit of a reach given the popularity of movies from numerous previous decades in the current one but let's focus on what's actually wrong with the movie.

The entire premise behind the main plot, Eric coming back to avenge Shelly, is built upon the concept that Eric and Shelly are deeply in love, enough that Eric cannot let himself move on until the wrongs done to her have been avenged. The movie sets aside extra time to cover this, but fails to actually deliver on the relationship.

Rather than a deep and meaningful relationship between two people who have found happiness and are ready to live the rest of there lives together, we are subjected to a circumstantial trauma bond which is then taken down the path of passionate and hasty fling rather than the ups and downs of a real relationship.

From that point on, the entire movie is compromised. Once they failed to deliver on the Eric Draven and Shelly Webster relationship the rest of the movie naturally fell apart. Whatever else a person individually finds right or wrong about the movie, it was failure within the first 45 minutes.
