See AllDragon Age Creator Addresses Veilguard's 'Woke' Criticism
My biggest beef was the lack of consistency. Even in a fantasy setting you have to follow a vein of logic to each race and region, how they would have met, interacted, and developed into their own unique and often rich histories. Someone from Orlais, could be recognized as such if they were walking through the streets in Fereldan, a member of the Bannorn, likewise would have stuck out like a sore thumb in the streets of Val Royeaux. Logically they would have come from distinct ethnic groups with their own histories. It made exploring that world engaging because each would feel like a lived in unique experience. Were they modeled after France and England? Well duh, yah. Would they be white people? Yep, is that ***king crime? So what. That just it, the world HAS a multi-racial diversity built in. You have Antiva, Rivain, Tevinter, modeled after mediterranean cultures of Portugal, Spain, and Italy, and they are darker skinned people with rich cultures. That's fantastic! There are the Qunari lands, there are the Island nations, there are the desert regions. Each with their own diverse races and cultures. Having them exist as their own identities made logic sense. Meeting distinct people from distinct regions made it feel real and lived in, and more engrossing.
Then we have Veilguard. All that deep lived in authenticity is chunked out the window. You play the game and everyone in the game, regardless of region, race, or culture, mirrors a modern day American metropolitan racial bag of skittles. Fine for real life, we've had 2000 years of history to pull that off. In a fantasy world set with where it is, it makes zero fucking sense with no shits given to the world building it took to get there. In Veilguard pretty much everyone talks, acts, and looks like they are from modern day LA or London. It's fucking ridiculous. Diversity is great when done right, when it's forced in pandering, it's garbage.
