As someone who has zero interest in the competitive aspect of modern Pokemon, I personally would just like the starters to be good enough on their own merits. And for all the trainers who fall into the "Megainum was bad" niche of thinking, I say this - if you can't build a good team around the worst starter in spite of its badness, that's a you problem.

I honestly wouldn't be surprised if they did use a fifth generation starter solely for the purpose of trolling all the people who seem to believe that every fifth generation Easter egg means that a remake is on the way. LMAO
