See AllToday is the End of an Era for The Simpsons
I think the demise of Tapped Out was inevitable when they changed the games "in-game" purchasing system a few years ago. I started playing probably fairly soon after the game was launched. Back then when the missions came out, whether it was the Halloween or Valentines ones, the majority of the items that you could earn as rewards were purchasable using in game dollars or whatever in-game currency you earned for that set of missions. I can't remember what the particular reason was, but I'd had to take a break from the game. When I started playing again, the majority of the rewards had to be purchased with the premium currency. My sons stopped playing; to get every reward was now too expensive. I'm guessing that was when most of the fremium players left or started to leave. The premium players come from the ranks of the fremium. For such a silly game, I have had so much enjoyment. I am already missing it.
In my mind's eye the downfall is as follows: Some soulless bean counter, "I can make the game more profitable, let's make it more premium but still call it fremium." The fremium players, "It's too expensive now." Exeunt fremium players. Soulless Bean Counter, "Look profits have increased!" (Not increased sales but reduction in costs!) Premium Players "My fremium player friends have left. I can't lord it over them. That's it I'm off!" EA, "Oh no woe, alas and alack the game is no longer profitable, let's shut it down," Exeunt omnes!
