That's what they did in season 2 of Outlander. The first episode shoes clare back in her time in like 1947 and how she has explain what she's been thru to her husband then towards the end of that episode, and every subsequent episode of that season, we're shown what happened in 1745 and why Claire had to leave Jaime, her soul mate, and return to a life she no longer wants. Also, the S2 finale goes back and forth btwn the 18th and 20th century timelines which sets up season 3 perfectly. I'm just saying, Yellowjackets could do something similar and set up season 5 if season 4 goes that route.
