See AllThere's a New Assassin's Creed Shadows 'Controversy'
But there's a big difference between the last Samurai and shadows. Tom Cruise was never a Samurai. He fought in the side kf the Samurai and witnessed the fall of the last Samurais.
In shadows a historical person which we know very little of is portrayed as a legendary Samurai. The honor of seconding Nobunagas sepukku was given to Mori Ranmaru. Being the secondary in such an act is a big honor and must be done by someone who is trusted 100% to be able to perform this perfectly.
Ubisoft calling Yasuke a legendary Samurai had consequences. While jn the Japanese version he is not called a Samurai just a warrior, in English he is called a legendary Samurai. Nafter the release if the trailer Yasukes English Wikipedia page got altered so much that the status of a Samurai is not not editable anymore and as a compromise, because there's no evidence that he actually was a Samurai (btw i believe he was a Samurai but that's irrelevant here), the meaning itself of Samurai got altered. If you look up the word Samurai you will find that kts the same as Bushi now. But thats not correct. That was done to make Yasuke actually be a Samurai. Bushi is a warrior, so every Samurai is a Bushi but not every Bushi is a Samurai. Its like saying all man at arms were knights.
This is a huge issue i have as Ubisoft choose to make political statements which actually had an impact on society, history and language.
The biggest issue i have though is how they treat religion. There is a buddha status which absolutely is forbidden to be presented in media, yet Ubisoft absolutely 3d modeled it and it's in the game. Destroying Shinto shrines. In Buddhism there are absolutely no female monks. Females can't do such things in Buddhism yet we have female monk warriors in shadows. He have female a Sumo wrestler, which again is maybe religious insulting for some.
Just because something for westerns seems crazy to be upset about can be upsetting to others.
