See All"What We're Creating Is Being Stolen From Us" Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth's Briana White Discusses the Impact of AI on Creativity
I understand the sentiment. HOWEVER I have a very unpopular opinion on this front. I am an artist, crocheter, voice actor, and writer. When it comes to AI in these spaces I agree, AI crochet images used in stores is a scam. AI art has its issues. However, Im not sure I agree with the "AI is stealing" mentality. The reason I feels this way is because I have spent years and years studying other artists. Why? Because I love their style and I am inspired by their style and want to add elements of their style to my own work. Just like those artist have done before them and THOSE artists before THEM. I have written fanfiction for over 20 years. Inspired by other fanfiction. I wrote a book based off a novel I loved when I was in second grade. We argue that there is no original ideas in defense of HUMAN works. But say AI is stealing when, from my understanding, it is all the same nonsense. I have voiced in anime abridges IMPERSONATING og actors. What I did was more human and alive of course, but how is me participating in those works, voicing characters mimicking the original voice actors any different then AI recreating actor voices? Now, OBVIOUSLY I am talking in a fandom space. I do not agree with selling AI artwork. Books being published that were written purely by AI, and I do not think any voice actors should be replaced by AI without the og actors consent/they should be paid for any work done professionally with their voices being used. But I do have conflicting opinions on AI being used the same way humans have functioned for eternity. I dont think we are loosing creativity as a whole. So I guess Im more or less on Briana's side. Just like fan creations and fandubs and fancomics and fanfiction has always existed. But I dont love the idea of it being used to replace human beings
