Let's be honest, Gege hated Gojo and probably couldn't wait to get rid of him in a way that at the very least wouldn't completely incite the fan base. For what it's worth, i'm glad Gojo died because it did give the other crew chances to shine. If he survived the whole time everything would've been about him. Which would've been annoying. Even coming back, it would've been pretty primarily focused on him when the whole point imo is the new generation replacing the old in every sense.

Gojo wanted to replace the heads of Jujutsu Society with new people. Young sorcerers should replace the old ones. They did.
