The "expansion received high praise from fans" is objectively not true. Shattered Space has mostly negative reviews, and for good reason; none of your decisions matter.
This is a path Bethesda has been moving down for quite some time now, and it is a misstep.
Additionally, having nearly every world location in the game be procedurally generated was also a mistake, as nothing feels unique or unexplored. Exploration is unrewarding and lackluster as a result. Procedural generation has its place, but it should not take the place of hand crafted levels and storytelling.
The end result of both of these things being missing from most of the game leaves it feeling empty and incomplete. Coupled with the abject lack of updates/expansions makes it feel like a No Man's Sky remake without the redemptive arc.
