It's a bit of a false premise. Starfield didn't succeed to its potential not because it was big, but because it was empty. It would have shone if every planet was exciting and packed with towns and quests. Instead too many worlds was like one puzzle and/or one pirate base and just running around flat, barren ground.
Borderlands 4 Needs a Shot in the Arm With Its Vault Hunters
Borderlands 3 gave us the ability to choose between three (4 with dlc) class abilities for the first time with slottable modifiers. Tiny Tina's Wonderland already gave us the ability to combine two classes.
Of the two, I prefer BL3, as I found one class with three (four) skill trees richer than two classes each with a single skill tree.
Point is, the last two games had a lot of changes to the formula, I doubt they're going to stop doing so in 4.
