The Magu-Magu no mi doesn't stop Ace from using his powers. If Ace had used his powers when Akainu tried to kill Luffy, it would've gone right through him and still killed Luffy, since Akainu wasn't using Haki. The Mera-Mera no mi isn't overrated, Ace chose to sacrifice himself for his brother.
