I disagree with the publisher. I just got the plat. And some of the trophies are inaccurate with their descriptions. I had to exceed 3,200 faction points with a few of the alliances because something wasn't being count towards the score. So being able to sell back valuables I had purchased consistently through the game helped me get all the faction trophies after their associated quests were done too. So if you care for extra faction rep (which you should if you're going for best ending) than the "useless" valuables come in handy in a pinch. Those 3 rep points add up!
