it's kinda ironic that this is a huge issue when the thing that would really balance the game was taken out when the game was play-tested, which is having to purchase fuel for your ship after grav jumps.
I read that it was deleted in play-testing because it cut into your funds and made buying equipment harder, but I think that's what they need to add back in via the Game Preferences or whatever they're called.
Just like choosing to make sleep, food, and doctors necessary, we would turn on fuel consumption from the beginning, thus making the universe a little more gritty and realistic, as well as expensive
