It really varies. When I first started playing one of the new Tomb Raider games I liked it, but it started to feel repetitive after several hours. I thought that I might go back to it later and never did.

There are other games where I know within 15 minutes because it's just constant shooting or slicing. I find that boring and it makes my wrist hurt.

I test out a lot of games using GamePass and it's probably 1 in 5 that sound interesting where I actually like them. But, I set a lower bar there for trying a game out than I would for purchase.

Before I buy anything, I watch gameplay videos at 2x speed. If I'm on the fence, I only buy from Steam, Epic or GOG and make sure to set a timer for less than 2 hrs. If it's still "meh," I return it and flag it for later, on deep sale. I often know that it's a no or yes by then.

I've played a few games where I really liked the game for many hours, felt like I got my money's worth, but at some point it started to feel like a slog and I just never finished it. I wouldn't necessarily say that I didn't like the game, but I didn't feel compelled to finish it either. That's probably more of a risk given that I like lengthy RPGs.

For example, I love and finished The Witcher 3, although I took breaks and came back to it. I plan to play the DLC, but it took so long to finish the main game that I set it aside. Same with The Outer Worlds. I've sunk a ridiculous amount of hours into 3 different characters in Skyrim, never finished it, and just bought a copy for a 3rd system lol

Female gamer here too - right? I mean, I played as Geralt & didn't whine & complain about having to play as a male with only female love interests. It's called role-playing. Is it fun when I can play a character that matches my gender and romantic interests? Sure, but I don't ONLY play those games

I haven't played either game yet as I have a huge backlog, but they both look interesting.

Review bombing BG3 is dumb. They won last year and have nothing to do with Wukong losing this year.

This is why I always read negative comments though to see why a game is rated like it is. I've seen games with great ratings, yet the negative ones make it clear that it isn't a game that I would enjoy. I've also really liked games that had meh ratings.

We're not all looking for the same things in our games. For example, I cannot for the life of me understand how a game where you just run around shooting is fun. But plenty of people like them! Or racing cars or pretending to play sports.

Give me a good story though and I'll play almost anything!
