See AllKingdom Come: Deliverance 2 is Being Held Back by the Xbox Series S
I’m surprised some sort of class action lawsuit hasn’t been filed yet against Microsoft. The series X was advertised as having better hardware so that you could get higher resolution, frame rates and better performance and yada yada.
Requiring developers to adhere to the series, S parity clause creates a bottleneck. The series X is never going to be used at its full potential due to hardware limitations on a Series S that was barely considered next generation when it was released. This is essentially a “bait and switch.” Everyone who purchased a series X was sold a false bill of goods, because we can’t take advantage of any of the extra power in the hardware. Not really. We ALL bought overpriced Series S when we bought a Series X.
It’s amazing what developers can do when they have one set of hardware specs to work with. The optimization that they can get out of the games, specifically ones that are exclusive to one console, is unreal. We’re not seeing any of that, because Microsoft is pulling this “parity” horsecrap.
I want to sue.
If you want to buy the latest next GEN games, then buy a next GEN console or a new PC/GPU. Or if you insist on using a series S, play it on the cloud so that you can render server side.
It’s holding gaming development back. Imagine what games we might have if Microsoft hadn’t take this approach and split their player base.
