Xbox Officially Confirms Its First $80 Game
Not shocked, MS, Sony, Nintendo are pushing games the way of Netflix did rentals and rocked the industry forever. The ultimate winner here will be the content provider who can master the greatest value for the similarly priced monthly subscriptions and offer free/discounted title access. Title creators are also on the hook, because I think the shift is on for lower up front and paid in game content access. Several highly successful models here, and one has to ask at what point does a franchise quit tagging a number on the back end to sell yet another title, and when do they go with the evergreen title strategy with all the development spent in paid access content packs. Title companies need to take notice, us older gamers will age out, and the new generation is used to seeing evergreen titles like Fortnight, and they aren't going to Gamestop, Best Buy, or Walmart to buy the classic disc title game. You sell one $80 dud and you'll never sell them again.
Make sure you buy the Gearbox CEO a meal when he's on your street corner begging for food, because this guy is a clown. "No matter the price, real fans would find a way to make it happen", yeah until they realize that real fans aren't how they pay the development bills.
