Halo Wars Dev Explains Why Master Chief Isn't in the Game
If they do a Halo Wars 3 I would want it to take place between Halo Wars 2 and the end of Halo Infinity. If I have the timeline right Halo Wars 2 takes place during Halo 5 and ends at ends at the same time. It could be the UNSC / spirit of fire vs Cortana vs the Banished. They could use this to explain how Cortana was defeated and the Banished control every thing. Halo Wars 3 would show the Spirit of Fire arriving at the Halo after the end of the story told in Halo Infinite because of the cut scene.
