My Reviews (14)
Clair Obscur: Expedition 33
One of the greatest RPGs ever made. Any complaints or gripes I may have about the game are so minor that they can't detract from the perfection that is Clair Obscur: Expedition 33. I can't wait to see what Sandfall does next.
Devil May Cry 3: Dante's Awakening
This was the first Devil May Cry game I had ever played. Between the music and over-the-top action, there is a lot to like here. While Devil May Cry 3 can be quite difficult, it feels very rewarding to play.
Super Mario World
The first game I ever played on the Super Nintendo, and also my first console game. Super Mario World is a timeless 2D platformer, and if you like that style of gameplay you will love Super Mario World. While it is nowhere near as difficult as Super Mario Bros 3, some of the bonus levels are quite challenging.
Yu-Gi-Oh! Duel Links
This is a pretty solid adaptation of the card game for mobile devices. I especially like how much PvE content there is in this game as well.
I wish that they had kept Life Points to 8,000 rather than setting it to 4,000, as games feel too short.
Pokemon Gold
My all-time favorite Pokemon game. Pokemon Gold and Silver took everything that made Red and Blue great and improved on it further.
It also added unique features like a day/night cycle along with events that happened on certain days of the week, which was something you didn't really see in console games at the time.
Overall, Pokemon Gold and Silver were great games that are worth playing if you haven't done so already.
Slay the Princess
When I played this game, I didn't quite know what to expect. Slay the Princess isn't a particularly long game, but the amount of different storylines makes it interesting enough to play through again to see how differently things can go.
Combine that with the unique art style, great music, and stellar voice acting, and you've got a recipe for a horrifying visual novel that will stick with you for years to come.
Pokemon Red
One of two games that was the start of a life long passion for the RPG genre. My parents had gotten me a copy of Pokemon Red and I became obsessed with the series.
Compared to later games, Pokemon Red and Blue are pretty basic. The inventory system didn't age well and certain moves were stupidly OP, but these two games are absolute classics that are responsible for Pokemon being as big as it is today.
Is it perfect? No. Was it still an absolutely fantastic game from start to finish? Without a shadow of a doubt, yes.
Journey
Journey was unlike anything I had ever played before. When I downloaded the demo and played it, I immediately ran out to the nearest store that sold PlayStation cards. Journey is a short game that only runs for three hours or less, but it doesn't need to be a long game.
Between the presentation, music, and graphics there is a lot to like about Journey, but the thing I loved the most was how it told a story without a single line of dialogue. If ever there was a clear-cut example of video games being art, it would be Journey.
The Legend of Zelda: Wind Waker HD
I remember how much hate Wind Waker got over its graphics when it was first announced (and also leading up to its release). Sure, cel-shading isn't for everyone but I found it very appealing.
Graphics aside, the music was top-notch, the dungeons were well-designed, and it was just a downright fun game to play. My only complaint was the ending, but aside from that this is one of the best Legend of Zelda games.
Spyro The Dragon
Spyro the Dragon was the first game I had ever played on the original PlayStation, and was also my first 3D game as well. I had only played games on the Super Nintendo and Game Boy Color up to that point, and having colorful 3D environments to explore blew my young mind away.
The story is pretty simple, but the gameplay is both fun and addicting. Combine that with the music and you've got a great 3D platformer/collecatathon on your hands. While the remake was decent, it didn't quite capture the charm of this classic. I try to load this game up and beat it once every couple of years to remind myself of my earlier days as a gamer.
World of Warcraft
World of Warcraft certainly left quite an impression on me. Prior to the 14-day trial back in 2009, I had never played an MMORPG before. I'll never forget the first time I set foot in Azeroth and how alive the world felt in comparison to anything I had played up to that point.
I still play World of Warcraft to this day, and it has been one heck of a journey even during the less-than-stellar expansions like Warlords of Draenor.
Lunar: Silver Star Story Complete
Lunar: Silver Star Story Complete is one of the two games that made me as obsessed with the RPG genre as I am. Nowadays, it may not seem like much with its 2D graphics and dated voice acting, but Lunar: Silver Star Story Complete is a fantastic game from start to finish.
This game was unique in that the bosses scaled to the main character's level, so even if you did manage to reach max level the final boss will still give you a run for your money.
