See AllThe 25 Best Metal Gear Games, Ranked
It’s a tie between MGS 4 and Peace Walker. Many cutscenes and moments in MGS 4 give me chills to this day (the microwave hallway gameplay/cutscene is so epic and dramatic it makes the entire series worth playing just for a minute or two of mad button mashing.) I love the gameplay in 4 too. But MGS PW probably takes the #1 spot. The story is awesome, the gameplay was spot on, capturing soldiers and developing your base is extremely engaging, and once it ends, it hasn’t actually ended yet. I wonder how many players stopped playing the game, thinking they had finished it, and had no idea about the Zadornov search missions and the real final battles and true ending. The true ending scenes are so epic and dramatic, it’s still hard for me to believe ANY of this was done all on an underpowered handheld system with only 1 analog stick. Well, analog nub anyway. And the main theme music is probably my favorite of the series. To this day when I play it I sit on the “Press Start” screen and let the music play at least twice before beginning playing. Thankfully I can play it on Steam Deck by emulating the PS3 HD Collection. Playing MGS 4 nowadays you’re limited to emulation on PC which is playable at best, or digging out and hooking up your old PS3.
