This game mechanic patenting junk needs to stop. Imagine, if Id Software patented the concept of first-person shooters, all those 30-odd years ago... Where would we be now? Nothing but Doom and Quake? Good games, don't get me wrong... But it's an insane concept.
It's like if someone were to patent the concept of a character type in movies. Sorry! No more final girls running from the bad guy - we did one already, oops. Sorry, no more kaijus destroying the city movies - only Godzilla allowed! Zombies? Not anymore! Only Romero can do it!
These people are literal billionaires. Modders do more work, for free, faster and more reliably, than billionaire mega-corporations. Honestly? Stop giving them your money to play the same game on the same maps year after year after year.
