I think you summarized your own article in the beginning quite well: Your own lofty expectations are at fault. The split screen open world has been running well on Series X, looks great, has fun bosses and set pieces, and my gf and I are about 70% through only playing about an hour or two at time. It's Borderlands. It isn't going to reinvent the wheel and it will never capture the nostalgia of when you first experienced the series because that's impossible. Enjoy it for what it is, not what it isnt.

I don't overly disagree (this is more to the person below that responded) with you that AI will replace or streamline a lot of jobs, but right now every AI out there has been trained using some form of copyrighted material. If I steal someone else work I get fined or go to jail, but if a company does it, they get a billion dollars, and the general public shrugs when in reality it's a real person out there having their livelihood taken away.

Biggest complaint is that they seem to have permanently strayed from any K. Rool or Krocodile enemy types. The trailer looked they just replaced Mario with DK in a cartoon world. It took a majority of the trailer to even show a banana or two and they looked like star pieces/crystals. I wouldnt defend that the evolution of art was to look like every other Nintendo game out there.
