Irish mythology would be class. Going up against a phantom goddess of war like The Morrigan. Macha has some of the same functions but is less cool. You could bring in locations like Hy-Brazil, or have a whole cast in an Tuatha Dé Danann. You have Laugh, Lir, An Cailleach, so many great characters. And then the human mythology, Cú Chullainn, Fionn McCumhaill, loads of visually striking heroes and villains. Artistically it looks different, and the setting would work. Only thing is it's still a bit Northern European after Ragnarok, may be good to look at Egypt first?
