You actually don't own modern physical games either, as the game isn't on the disc or cartridge but rather grants you access to play the game. In a few decades the ability to play physical media could be revoked just like digital. I also prefer physical media and ownership, but if you want ownership then you should simply download backup roms of games.

If having a game isn't ownership, then piracy isn't stealing.
