You're assuming they used to care. Business is not about caring it's about profit. You don't get a company to a place like apple or Microsoft by caring. Blizzard/Activision knew it would happen so didn't care either for the price they paid.
To make profit post purchase they need to cut the dead weight. Businesses when doing well have a habit of over recruiting friends and family members.
