Hytale and Minecraft definitely have different design philosophies. Minecraft is all about the idea of limitations breeding creativity. If they put a chair in the game, most players will just use that chair. But if they don’t players are forced to come up with their own solutions. The article argues that people will just copy other people’s designs, but if that’s our criteria, furniture would only reduce the diversity of designs further. And calling Minecraft’s choice ‘restrictive,’ I think, is looking at it the wrong way. If Mojang were to add furniture, people would stop trying to find new ways to make furniture and start endlessly asking Mojang to add new furniture for them. That being said, I think the approach works for Hytale.
