You mentioned the tear in the universe created by Lilith pushing the moon. What you didn't mention was how the new universe had a different graphics set up. The trees and lush environment you mentioned along with the arm and psycho mask looked more realistic as opposed to the cell shading graphics used in previous games. Could that possible be a change?
