I disagree with the take that she was treated pointlessly and simply murdered for shock. Yea, it was upsetting and highlighted the cruelty of life and war but neither of those are pointless. Making it about gender is dismissive of her value. Who wasn't happier when the enemy was defeated because of what he did to a loved character? Even still, vindication did not change the tragedy of the past and these are all valuable developments in the story. Instead we are shown how the main character holds her dear and as strength to face his greatest challenge yet
