My concern isn’t that Astrid is played by an African American. She actually has the look and feel of Astrid from the animated movie. However, I do wish they had given her blond hair. My bigger concern is that DeBlois says he wants to flush out Astrid’s character more in this movie. The story is t about her, it’s about Hickup becoming a man and a leader in a way his father couldn’t foresee. Any other version will detract from Hickup’s story.
