I only mentioned the "quality" part because it seemed the most logical response someone else might have to what I had written. I never meant to imply that that was what you were saying and I apologize if there was some confusion.

As for what Solo Leveling is, I believe it actually gets a pretty good amount of credit and it's probably one of the best, if not the best, in the action genre. On the other hand, I totally understand a lot of the backlash that it has received this last year, and that's mainly because of what happened at the Crunchyroll anime awards. Many people feel that Solo Leveling was the least deserving of the six nominees that were nominated for anime of the year, so when it won, a lot of people cried foul. I get were they are coming from, at best, I would have put Solo Leveling at fifth, with Delicious in Dungeon, Dandadan, Apothecary Diaries and Frieren a head of it. I can objectively lay out why each one was better at character development, original storytelling, and overall writing (and bonus points to Frieren for having the best OST of the lot). So because, for some reason, people have made Chrunchyroll the arbitor for what's "the best" in anime, we have a lot of people that still feel like Solo Leveling has received a title it unjustly deserved and therefore kind of resent it for it.

I believe everyone should stop arguing about who deserves what and focus on the real problem - the Crunchyroll Anime Awards. I believe the anime community as a whole should call out the Crunchyroll awards for what they are, not an actual awards show and just a popularity contest (Google if not sure why), then, if so, I don't believe most people would have any issue with Solo Leveling like they do now. After all, it would be hard to argue that Solo Leveling isn't the most popular anime world wide right now.

So, to sum up - Is Solo Leveling great? Yes.

Is Solo Leveling also really resented right now? Yes, but not because of the reasons most people think.

I'm sorry, but speaking as an actual Solo Leveling fan, your statement is not factually correct. Currently Frieren sits #1 on MAL (the gold standard, long running website used to rank anime by anime fans) after it dethroned the long running champion Fullmetal Alchemist.

It would be more correct to say, Solo Leveling is more popular through out the world, except in Japan, the birth place of anime (maybe that should tell you something).

And, no, popularity does not equal quality. If so then every new Jurassic Park or Fast and the Furious movie would sweep the Oscars every year.

Nah, I'm sure they'll rush season 3 out just in time for it to win Crunchyroll's popularity contest, hmm, I mean anime of the year award, even though only season 2 is nominated.🤣

Even though I am a fan of Solo Leveling, I have to admit that a lot of Solo Leveling fans are never going to give Frieren the accolades it deserves, and that being the case, this article does seem like nothing more than a bit of chum to stir the waters.
