Street Fighter 6's King of Fighters Crossover DLC Explained
I think most fans generally don't want Street Fighter to become a crossover fighter. SF has proven itself to have the most impactful character designs of any fighting game series, and with their extensive back catalog of characters who haven't appeared in years, many just want the series' lesser appreciated characters to have their moment in the sun opposed to having their spot snubbed again. While I think Terry and Mai are worthwhile additions to the roster, the feeling is a little bittersweet and it could be a slippery slope if Capcom keeps implementing guests each season. Mortal Kombat has split their fans this way. Looks like I can't have my favorite ninja because NetherRealm decided to add pop culture guy of the week instead. While I don't think Capcom will do this, I think excessive guest characters can cheapen the value of the brand in the public eye. While say Leon Kennedy or Mega Man or another beloved Capcom character would definitely be interesting in SF's style (and I'm sure would sell a lot of season passes) it would muddle the individuality of the franchise. I feel this is a natural consequence of Capcom dialing back their crossover games due to the increased development time of video games as a whole and their last burn they received from Marvel Vs Capcom Infinite. I hope they don't use that as an excuse to pump their newest successful fighting game with characters they would have put in their crossover franchises. The only other meaningful cameo I feel that would be deserving of a slot, would be a Tekken character like Kazuya or Jin due to the companies' close history and seeming cancellation of Tekken X Street Fighter. While they could go and add characters from additional fighting game franchises, it would begin to make the game feel like "fighting games" the fighting game. And I would rather have Street Fighter feel like Street Fighter.
