Just because gigaths can hunt a kraken doesn't mean they're stronger than one, the kid had school supplies and homework books so it's safe to assume they're at least almost as intelligent as humans. And humans hunt whales using tactics, I'm assuming gigaths would be more likely to use a hunting ship than walk into the ocean and pummel a kraken...
